Question of the Week
Q: Isn't computer crime only a problem in the United States? If I live in a different country, I'm not a target.
A: Computer crime is a global problem. You and your family are a target, no matter where you live. Keep in mind, the Internet knows no borders You are just as exposed as to cyber criminals that live on your street as the ones that live around the world. It does not matter what language you speak, what nationality you are, or what country you live in you are a target. In part, that is why cyber crime is so profitable, because the criminals have the entire world as their target. The following is a quote from Valerie McNiven, advisor to the U.S. Treasury.
"Global cyber-crime generated a higher turnover than drug trafficking in 2004 and is set to grow even further with the wider use of technology in developing countries, a top expert said on Monday. No country is immune from cyber-crime, which includes corporate espionage, child pornography, stock manipulation, extortion and piracy." [Reuters, 28 Nov 2005]
