Q: Is it safe to connect to and use the Internet?

In general, yes. First, you have to understand that while you can do many things to greatly reduce risk on the Internet, you cannot eliminate all risk. At some point you do the best you can, then simply accept the risk that is left. This may sound a little scary but think about it, you do this every day in your regular life. Almost all of us drive, either we drive to work, to the super market, to soccer games, etc. There is risk in driving a car, (43,443 people were killed in car accidents in 2005 in the United States) yet most of us do it every day. However, we do a lot of things to reduce that risk. We use seat belts, we drive defensively, and we buy cars with safety technology built into it. However, no matter how much security we put into driving every day there is always risk that something will happen yet most of us simply accept that risk. Using computers and the Internet is no different. That is what this site is all about, helping you and your family reduce risk.
