- On Guard Online: This is the best US government site we could find that covers not only securing your computer, but a wealth of other security information with links to videos, tutorials and other information. We highly recommend this site.
- Microsoft Home User Security: Microsoft's site on protecting home Windows computers. This site can be overwhelming and is Microsoft specific. However, it has extensive information and is maintained by the people who made your computer's operating system.
Protecting Your Identity & Credit Rating
- Annual Credit Report: Sponsored by the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion), this is where you can get your free annual credit reports and place a credit fraud alert.
- FTC Identity Theft: The Federal Trade Commission's website on identity theft and how to protect against it. They have extensive information, links and resources.
Protecting Your Kids
- I Keep Safe: An excellent non-profit with extensive resources about protecting your children's online experience. Includes videos for parents and games for kids that teach about Internet safety. This well organized and easy to follow. Its also sponsored by Symantec, a security corporation.
- NetSmartz: This site is sponsored by the"Missing and Exploited Children", the "Boys and Girls Club", and works with various law enforcement organizations.
- NY Status Childrens Security Conference: The Third Annual Cyber Security Awareness Conference will focus on how to keep children safe while using the Internet. The Conference is a key initiative in the celebration of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, held each October.
